Saint Benedict Institute Logo

Modeled upon the traditional Cross of Saint Benedict, the logo of the Saint Benedict Institute recalls the Benedictine spirit which inspires our work.  The four roundels symbolize different aspects of our mission.  Clockwise:

• Book with Alpha Omega (Catholic Thought): All of our intellectual work is rooted in and ordered toward Christ, the Logos, the Alpha and Omega of all things.

• Dove (Culture): The dove is the traditional symbol of the Holy Spirit who inspires our worship and therefore shapes our culture. We believe that "cult" (what one worships, reveres as highest) is the heart of culture.

• Seashell (Evangelization): The seashell is the traditional symbol of both pilgrims (who would gather shells when they arrived in a new land) and baptism (shells being one of the receptacles used to pour water in the baptism ritual). Here, the shell represents our willing response to the call for a "New Evangelization," which Pope Benedict XVI described as the re-proposing of the Gospel "to those regions awaiting the first evangelization and to those regions where the roots of Christianity are deep but who have experienced a serious crisis of faith due to secularization."

• Anchor (Hope College): Recalling Hebrews 6:19, "We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul," the anchor is the symbol of Hope College, our covenant partner and ally in the ecumenical project of re-proposing the Gospel.
